BP Portrait Awards - Oil on Canvas

Don't Panic crashed the BP Portrait Awards at the National Portrait Gallery to serve some Krude de Gulf and to cast our critical eye across the oil on canvas.

The BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery was previously sponsored by Imperial Tobacco. Now it is socially unacceptable for tobacco to play this public role, and it is our hope that oil and gas will soon be seen in the same light, as the public comes to recognise that the sponsorship programmes of BP and Shell are means by which attention is distracted from their impacts on human rights, the environment and the global climate.

Investigation highlights further government misspending

Investigation highlights further government misspending
By Heydon Prowse

Don't Panic

It's a bit embarrassing. People ask what I've been working on lately and I say 'a film about quangos'. They ask 'what are they?' I try to explain and the conversation promptly dies. (If you really want to know you can find out here.)

But boredom is a powerful tool. It's why bankers, politicians, lawyers and accountants rule the world, not pop stars. Because most of us lose interest in articles containing words like ‘subprime mortgage', ‘private finance initiative' or ‘tax loophole' before the second paragraph. Learning about the myriad ways in which we get robbed every day is boring - fact....

And it's why we're losing billions of pounds of our hard-earned taxes (90 to be precise) a year to these quasi-non-governmental-whateveryoucallthems. Perhaps the Quango Awards will help! As part of our investigation we have looked into the spending of these government-hired organisations to see just how effectively taxpayers' money is being spent.
